Luigi St. Omer

luigi st. omer

For Luigi St Omer, Sir Dunstan’s second son, painting was part of his life as long as he can remember. At a very early age he began painting, or as he calls it, exploring the landscape of life producing a variety of works depicting rural Caribbean life with landscapes, fishing and market scenes. Luigi is known for his use of powerful brush strokes to manipulate colour on the canvas, creating a feeling of movement and energy. This unconventional style was developed during art school at the Edna Manley School for the Visual Arts in Jamaica. He later studied at The Art Student League of New York City and the University of Hartford.

Luigi has assisted his father on many acclaimed projects, including murals in three St Lucian churches, and Castries’ renowned Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Numerous other corporate and government buildings on island feature murals done by Luigi. A prolific and energetic artist, he has exhibited his original artwork throughout the Caribbean, Europe, South America, and the United States.

Again following in his father’s footsteps, for years Luigi was involved in art education in the local schools. At age 40, he retired from teaching at St. Mary’s College and now paints full time.
